While many are in awe of the skyrocketing gold prices, a nature lover can find their own treasures, scattered amongst the Goldfields' red dirt.
The region's wildflower season has sprung to life and locals say it's one of the most spectacular they've seen - thanks to a generous amount of rain this Winter.
While in the Goldfields, completing a documentary and exhibition project, I too got to witness the region's Wintery splendour.
On the drive around Kalgoorlie and Boulder and up to Menzies, then Leonora, the darkened purple, showery skies set an incredible contrast against the red earth, speckled with spectacular outcrops of brilliant colour.
From what appears to be a rather plain, spindly desert plant, this unusual flower is currently casting radiant speckles of red across the top of Mount Leonora. A local Aboriginal elder informed me they're "Wild Boronia" and are boiled for their perfume.
What a treat. If you're considering an adventure out to the Goldfields, Western Desert and beyond now is the time. Don't forget your camera.
