In 2019, I produced a video and portrait photo series called "The People of North Perth", which shone a light on business owners and residents in the locale.
Here is one of my favourite tales; 82-year-old Jim Howe who began working at a motorcycle shop on Angove Street in North Perth as a 14-years-old apprentice.
This interview was conducted weeks before the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown in Perth, Western Australia in 2020. In late 2020, the Motorcycle Pit Stop moved to a new location in Osborne Park.
I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Jim and capturing his story. I think we can all agree his wonderful philosophy on life and youthful exuberance is inspiring.
**Please note, this was a small-budget, community funded production.
While you’re here on an adventure around North Perth.. here’s another tale.
This time it’s about how a North Perth cafe survived COVID-19 lockdown.
Another fave was Postcode Honey.
I interviewed John Flaherty from Postcode Honey; a self-proclaimed "frustrated farmer".
John set up a bee hive in his North Perth backyard.
From there, he got the idea to collect honey from locations around Perth and beyond and package them, according to their postcode.
It was fun donning the bee-keeping garb for this shoot. No bees (or videographers) were harmed in the making of this video!
But wait, there’s more! Here is a feature on the North Perth Bowls Club. So many characters at this club, 1970's beer prices and a monthly three-course offal appreciation night (if you feel so inclined). Get amongst it!
