What an honour to be asked to MC this fabulous event at the WA Maritime Museum 💃🎙❤️
The last convict ship to Australia, the Hougoumont, arrived in Fremantle in January 1868. On board were 62 Irish Fenians who published a hand-written newspaper, the Wild Goose, on their 90 day journey.
The Wild Goose has been touted as Australia’s first zine. Read more by clicking this link.
One of the contributors was John Sarsfield Casey; a Fenian political prisoner, writer and keen observer of colonial life.
We’ll hear Casey’s relatives Dr Patrick Maume and Mairead Maume, steamed live from Ireland. Patrick and Mairead worked with Casey’s granddaughter to compile his writings into two books: ‘A Mingling of Swans’ and ‘The Galtee Boy’.
Looking forward to sharing stories from this iconic part of Western Australia’s history 🙌❤️.
