Late last year, I was commissioned by Scoop Publishing to produce a photo feature, profiling Afghan-Australians living in Western Australia.
The feature took me on an adventure across Perth's suburbs, seeking out the tales of people living in this isolated and unique city.
I am a true believer that everyone has an incredible tale to tell and this was no exception. From a young girl who was banished from her town by the Taliban for trying to go to school, to a taxi driver who fled Afghanistan to Pakistan by hiding in ditches and abandoned caves, I was in awe of the stories told by these supposedly 'everyday people'.
I hope you enjoy reading their tales of survival, hope and resilience, just as much as I did hearing them. We all have so much to learn from each others experiences.
The feature was published in Scoop Magazine's Autumn 2016 edition, which sadly was their last ever edition, as they closed their doors in late April after 19 years.
I suspect this edition has become a collector's item following this announcement, so be sure to grab a copy before it runs out. This is the front cover.
